1. Reporting.
   1. Building genuine relationships with sources is the key.
      1. Send thank you/follow up notes to every source you talk to.
      2. Let people know that you are present and interested by showing up in person whenever possible.
   2. Leave your insecurity/shyness/fear at the door when you’re reporting.
      1. No one will be comfortable if you are not comfortable.
2. Interviewing.
   1. Always ask a question about money — in every interview.
   2. At the end of each interview, ask if there is anything they’d like to speak more about or anything I’ve missed.
3. Writing.
   1. Almost always default to a chronological structure for stories.
4. Editing.
   1. Read your work aloud.
   2. Adhere to AP style.
   3. Fact check everything, twice.
